Word of Wizards - Excerpts: P3 Assault on Nightwyrm Fortress

P3 Assault on Nightwyrm Fortress Excerpts

This preview gives a couple of new encounters excerpts and a new monster; the Abyssal Zealot. One of the encounter is fighting with a group of slaads and the other is an encounter with Uristhar Nightwyrm herself, so you can check out her stats if you need a shadow dragon now.

The Abyssal Zealot is a transformed humanoid with wings and claws that has dedicated itself to the Abyss, serving under demons. It comes in 2 forms, a Hurler and a Brawler.

The Abyssal Zealot Hurler is a Level 20 Artillery and prefers to shoot Abyssal Arrows (standard; at-will) at their targets which attacks vs. Reflex that deals 2d8+9 and ongoing 5 necrotic damage (save ends). When the enemies get closer, they use Forlorn Burst (standard; recharge 5,6) against Fortitude which deals 1d10+9 necrotic damage and weakens the target (save ends). In melee, they fight with their Death Tail (standard; at-will) which attacks AC and deals 1d8+4 and takes 10 ongoing necrotic damage (save ends).

It's counterpart, the Abbysal Zealot Brawler is a Level 20 Brute that rushes into melee combat and uses its Death Claw (standard; at-will) that attacks AC and deals 2d8+6 and 5 ongoing necrotic damage (save ends). When it dies, it delivers a final Death Strike (free action, when reduced to 0 hitpoints) which attacks everyone's AC within a close burst 1 and deals 1d8+6 necrotic damage.

All Abyssal Zealots can fly but have different speeds and have a 20 variable resistance (see Monster Manual, pg. 282) which they can choose to use twice in an encounter. When an Abyssal Zealot is bloodied, their attacks become a Blood Smite which makes all their attacks deal an extra 2d6 necrotic damage.
