Dave Arneson left us on April 7 2009, 1 year shortly after Gary Gygax had done the same for us. With Dave's passing, the gaming community has lost their forefathers of RPGs that has touched many lives and sparked many creative imaginations among us for many many years.
While this can be considered a great loss for gaming but I would like to say that Dave's passing has only strengthen this hobby of ours.
Our game has been around for over 30 years, 30 years worth of history, 30 years of joys and fun, 30 years that span across generations of gamers.
With the departure of Dave Arneson, he has christened that our hobby has lived for that long and would continue to live on for many 30 years to come. He and Gary have immortalized our hobby that we share from the same heritage and this would be the story that we would forever tell our young gamers and their younger gamers for many years to come.
A story about how 2 men who shared a passion and love for games, met in a gaming convention in Lake Geneva 30 years ago that would become the beginning of something that mean so much to 6 million gamers all around the world 30 years later.
Here's to Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax! Thank you for Dungeons & Dragons!
In this special edition of Questing's Readings, I have gathered all the memoriams to Dave Arneson that I could find. These are stories of people who have or have not met Dave Arneson in person. Some had much to say about him, while some were at loss of words. If I have not included yours into the list it is because I missed it, so please feel free to add your links into the comment or link it directly to this post.
If you don't have a blog, you are most certainly welcomed drop your own words in the comments and share how you feel about Dave Arneson. Let this be our open memorial to think about Dave Arneson and what he has done for us and the game we play.
