Word of Wizards - Spotlight Interview: Plague of Spells

Spotlight Interview: Plague of Spells

I wasn't planning of including this interview as part of Word of Wizards because it is not directly related with RPG gaming products but there were a couple of interesting questions that were insightful.

Plague of Spells is the first book of the Abolethic Sovereignty trilogy; the first novel during the Spellplague in the Forgotten Realms.

The story revolves around Raidon Kane who, as a result during the crumbling of the Weave, was embedded with a spellscar in his fight against the aboleths. After reading this, I'll admit that I'm intrigued. This looks like a good series to pick up if I need inspirations to create or run PCs with a spellscar.

The other question that caught my attention is how the events in this book will affect the canon. I really hate novels ruining or incorporating their canon into the canon of the game setting. From my experience in 3.x days, the changes have been way too dramatic and it has caused quite a number of frustrations for me in the past.

From this interview, it did not directly state that this novel will be taken as canon. However it does point out that the RPG Story Team may ask the Book team to flesh out or develope a certain of the Realms through their novels. Plague of Spells will be detailing the areas right around Starmantle on the Dragon Coast and the Sea of the Fallen Stars or Xxiphu.

So that will be probably the second reason why I'm going to pick up this series, to see what sort of development and how wide the scope of freedom that the Story Team are giving to the authors.

I'll be keeping my eyes out for this one.
